Cosmetic Surgery: Tummy Troubles

A tummy tuck is a surgical cosmetic procedure that focuses purely on the abdomen, and is also known as an abdominoplasty. A tummy tuck is designed to create a firm and smooth abdomen by removing excess abdominal skin, additionally reducing fat and tightening the muscles of the abdominal wall. Weakness in the abdominal skin and muscles can be caused by inherited conditions or other instances such as substantial weight loss. Abdominoplasty can tighten muscles that have been separated and weakened by pregnancy, and may improve the appearance of stretch marks

The thought of a flat stomach is sometimes considered an unreachable goal by those of you suffering from loose skin in the abdomen area. You may feel you’re emotionally being held back by the physical reminder of sagging skin, and feel it’s stopping you from partaking in activities such as swimming. Maybe you’ve tried multiple diets and beauty treatments (such as shrink wraps or skin tightening machines) but have not been able to reduce your waist line or improve the sagging skin.

The best thing about a tummy tuck is the results are instant. Straight after the surgery, you will see a dramatic improvement to the tummy area and to your self confidence. Benefits of a tummy tuck include: tighter abdominal muscles, clothes fitting better, and feeling good about seeing your silhouette in the mirror. It’s a wonderful gift to treat yourself to after achieving weight loss goals or after you’ve had all your children. And, the results are permanent.

Did you know tummy tucks are for men, too? Even though tummy tucks are very popular with women who have had children, they are also suitable and available for those who have lost a significant amount of weight – weight loss isn’t gender specific. Men can also suffer from loose muscles and sagging skin that aren’t improved by exercise or diet so on contrary to what some make think; tummy tucks are not just a womens surgical solution…

If you maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle after your operation, your flat stomach will not fade. A tummy tuck will dramatically increase your movement ability, physical appearance and self confidence!

You will no longer feel self conscious about loose skin or your stretch marks as your stomach area will be fantastically flat. A tummy tuck is not a weight loss solution and will not resolve any long-standing weight loss issues but its ideal for removing and tightening your loose skin or muscles after weight loss or childbirth. However, if you’ve have recently lost a dramatic amount of weight you should postpone an abdominoplasty for six months up to a year, to be sure your new weight is stable.

As there is more than one tummy tuck procedure, your surgeon (Dr Mario Russo or Mr. Jallali) will decide which is suited to you during your free consultation. The suitable tummy tuck procedure will be decided based on what you expect, want to achieve and how much loose skin you have. A mini-tummy tuck focuses on the lower abdomen and tightens loose skin whereas a standard procedure removes excess skin and tightens underlying muscles, whilst an extended tummy tuck targets your entire lower torso.

If you’re considering cosmetic surgery or reconstructive surgery, Mr Navid Jallali a specialist in reconstruction surgery, is available at the clinic on 19th November – book your free consultation to discuss our cosmetic surgery procedures by contacting us or calling 01708 225 555
