What is CryoPen™ treatment?

Do you have benign skin lesions or other imperfections you’d rather be rid of?

Perhaps you’d like the freedom of wearing sleeveless tops and shorts on sunny days again?

CryoPen™  treatment can safely and quickly remove unwanted tissue, without affecting healthy surrounding tissue.

CryoPen™ is an advanced cryotherapy innovation that allows for the fast, effective, and safe removal of skin imperfections.

CryoPen™ can eliminate many common complaints in just a few seconds, including:

  • Skin tags
  • Warts
  • Verrucas
  • Milia
  • Cherry angiomas
  • Age and sun spots
  • Liver spots
  • Scarring
  • Moles
  • Hyper-pigmentation
  • Xanthelasma
  • Seborrhoeic Keratosis Removal

On all skin types.

Considered cosmetic procedures, many doctors on the NHS are no longer able to assist with clearing the affected area, leaving those looking for a way to safely treat lesions and other complaints affordably.

How does the CryoPen™ work?

Unlike other methods that might use more invasive lasers, CryoPen™  works by emitting a fine jet of nitrous oxide under high pressure, which allows us to work with pinpoint accuracy.

This freezes and destroys the tissue by freezing the intercellular fluid, forming ice shards and crystals that rupture the cell membrane, thereby destroying it.

This brings many benefits, including:

  • Cells can’t reproduce and come back as any reproductive DNA is removed
  • Precise application means it’s extremely safe, and the surrounding healthy tissue is not affected
  • A short treatment time
  • Minimal side effects that should fade within around 48 hours

Treatment timeline for CryoPen™ therapy

Step 1

Your CryoPen™ consultation

At this session, your therapists will look at the treatment area, check your skin type, and discuss any health or medical concerns into consideration.

They will then give your personalised advice on treatment, what to expect before and during, and aftercare.

Step 2

Treatment begins

The CryoPen™ session will begin. You might feel an extreme cold on the benign skin lesions as the CryoPen™ device is positioned close for 1-30 seconds at a time.

If needed, you might receive a second, shorter blast of nitrous oxide.

Step 3

Aftercare

Once complete, you might notice some slight itching or redness, but this should only last a few hours.

To keep your delicate skin healthy during healing, you are encouraged to avoid sun exposure, swimming, using the sauna or steam room, as well as not touching the affected area for at least 48 hours.

How much does CryoPen cost?

This depends on the type, quantity and severity of the skin imperfections and the number of freezing cycles that you require. Here at Aesthetics of Essex, we always strive to offer the most competitive rates – and, currently, our standard prices for CryoPen treatment are as follows:

  • Skin tag removal – From £60
  • Wart removal – £95
  • Verrucae removal – £95
  • Pigment and age spot removal – From £85
  • Mole removal – £110
  • Milia removal – price varies depending on how many milia need to be removed

All prices include one free of charge to up if needed.

Which skin imperfections can be treated with CryoPen™?

Skin tags – Skin tags are a common and harmless imperfection that causes no pain or discomfort, but can often affect a person’s self-esteem and confidence levels. As such, skin tag removal using CryoPen™ treatment has become an increasingly popular option at our clinic.

Milia – Although they can appear anywhere on the body, millia are usually grouped together on the nose, cheeks, and chin. They are small white bumps which develop when skin flakes get trapped or keratin builds up under the surface of the skin, and they usually resolve on their own over time.

If not, millia can be particularly stubborn and specialised treatments, such as CryoPen™, are required to get rid of them once and for all.

Cherry angiomas – Essentially, a cherry angioma is a red mole, and they can develop on most areas of the body. Unless a cherry angioma bleeds or changes in shape, size, or colour, they are not usually a cause for concern, but people often like to have them removed for a more perfect appearance.

Warts and verrucas  – While most people will experience a wart or verruca at some point in their lives, and although they don’t cause any harm, some people find them itchy, painful and embarrassing.

This is why, rather than waiting months (or even years) for them to go away on their own, many people now turn to Cryotherapy for warts and verrucas and seek the professional help of our clinic.

Pigmentation / Age Spots – Presenting as flat brown or black marks that appear on the surface of the skin and typically found on the face, hands, shoulders, upper back, and forearms, sun and age spots are caused by excess production of melanin or skin pigment. This most likely comes from normal skin ageing and frequent exposure to the sun.

Got any questions?

How is CryoPen™ treatment different from other cryotherapy procedures?

Rather than using liquid nitrogen, like in traditional cryotherapy procedures, CryoPen™ treatment uses a pressurised and superfine jet of nitrous oxide. This nitrous oxide freezes the inter-cellular fluid within the tissue, breaking down the cell membranes and eventually leading to the controlled destruction of the unwanted skin.

Is CryoPen treatment painful?

Every client is different, and we can never fully predict how you will react. However, most people find the procedure virtually pain-free.

You may feel some residual stinging, lasting for a few minutes after the treatment concludes, and, in some cases, a blister may form – which is perfectly normal.

If you do experience an unusually high level of discomfort, simply tell the clinician, and they will stop the procedure immediately.

Got further questions about the CryoPen™? Contact us to discuss your concerns, and we can keep you fully informed.

Will I need downtime?

Your skin may be tender, and it could blister for 24 hours after the CryoPen™ treatment.

However, this shouldn’t affect your day-to-day activities. Most people can undergo the procedure and continue with their normal routine, so there’s no need to take any time off work or rest at home – unless you want to!

How quickly will I see the results of CryoPen™ treatment?

Following CryoPen™ sessions, it can take approximately 1-6 weeks for the treatment area to fully heal, though the exact recovery time will depend on the depth and size of the imperfection or lesion.

During this time, the skin’s appearance is likely to get worse before it gets better – this is to be expected and is not something to worry about. For example, the area may become darker in colour as the skin cells die, or start to flake away as the new skin regenerates.

It’s important to be patient, as in most cases, people start to see an improvement at around four weeks. At that point, a follow-up visit is typically recommended, during which we can assess your response to the initial freezing cycles and decide whether further treatment sessions are necessary.

Contact us to book this follow-up session when you are ready.

Is CryoPen™ treatment right for me?

Generally speaking, the low-temperature procedure is suitable for most clients.

To make sure, during your first consultation, we’ll conduct a thorough analysis of the skin imperfection. This gives us a chance to ascertain your suitability – and, if we don’t think CryoPen™ is the best option for you, we’ll let you know.

However, the procedure isn’t suitable for:

• Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Clients with auto-immune disorders
• Those who suffer from keloid scarring
