Everything you need to know about Upper Eyelid Surgery

Has the passage of time started to tell on your eyes or has your vision become affected by droopy eyelids? Then you may decide to undergo upper eyelid surgery – otherwise known as eye lift blepharoplasty – here at Aesthetics of Essex.

The sagging upper eyelids can be a result of the weakening of eye muscles or loss of skin elasticity. Not only can it impair your vision, but can result in difficulty when wearing contact lenses. You may also experience irritation to the skin, due to the excess folds of eyelid skin rubbing together – or forehead discomfort from other muscles holding up the sagging skin.

What is blepharoplasty surgery?

Blepharoplasty – the surgical repair or reconstruction of an eyelid – aesthetically modifies the eye, removing any excess skin and tissue and tightening the surrounding area.

This instantly restores your field of vision whilst also reversing the signs of ageing.  Blepharoplasty surgery is popular among women and men who are looking for a more youthful visage.

What’s involved?

The surgeon performing the procedure will make tiny incisions along the natural crease of the eyelid to remove any excess skin and tissue. Small stitches will be placed, which will have to be removed after five days.

Performed under local anaesthetic (whichever you prefer), blepharoplasty surgery is completely pain-free, with a healing period of two weeks at the most. If you work, it’s probably a good idea to take a couple of days off immediately after treatment, as there may be some blurry vision, swelling, irritation and bruising.

You also should not wear make-up for at least 2-3 weeks in the area and avoid strenuous activities, allowing your eyelids to heal properly.

What can you expect from the results?

Once you’ve undergone blepharoplasty surgery and healed, you will be impressed with the results – entirely natural with a refreshed and youthful appearance around the eyes. If you have previously had your vision affected by droopy eyelids, you will also notice an improvement in your eye sight.

Important to note

It’s always important to note that when you undergo any form of surgery, you need to be absolutely sure that it is for you. Do your research, talk to the professionals and weigh up the pros and cons.

The results from the blepharoplasty can last for many years but it doesn’t halt the ageing process – just delays it a little bit. It’s important to bear in mind that you have realistic expectations from the surgery and valid reasons for having it done.

Here at Aesthetics of Essex, we only work with the very best experts in this field – Dr Ricardo Tejero, a highly qualified plastic reconstruction surgeon specialising in intricate surgery – so you know you will be in good hands.
