The best treatments for acne

Acne is an extremely common skin condition, that affects the majority of the population at some point in their lives. Causing oily skin and spots, acne can also make the skin painful to touch and hot.

Almost everyone with acne will have it on their face, with more than half of people having it on their back and 15% with acne on their chest. There are 6 different types of spots that people with acne are affected by:

· Cysts – these are the most severe. They are pus-filled lumps that are similar to boils and they can also cause scarring

· Nodules – these are hard bumps that appear under the skin

· Pustules – these are small red bumps that have a white tip centre

· Papules – again, they are small red bumps that can be tender and sore, but don’t have the white tip centre

· Whiteheads – similar to blackheads, they are firmer and nothing comes out when squeezed

· Blackheads – these are small, black lumps that sometimes present with a yellowish-hue

Having acne can be debilitating and, more often than not, affects self-confidence – many women use heavy make-up to cover up the condition, which, in turn, can make it worse. So, here at Aesthetics of Essex, we have a number of different treatments that are aimed at reducing the appearance of acne – and restoring self-confidence!

Aimed at unblocking the follicles that cause acne – usually from oil and dead skin cells – we have a variety of treatments, including:

1. LED light therapy

Stimulating the facial cells and helping to rejuvenate the skin, the LED light therapy used here at Aesthetics of Essex is delivered in the form of MEDAesthetics mask – precision-delivered LED light wavelengths that stimulate fibroblasts. There are two different colours of LED light therapy available for the treatment of acne. The benefits include:

Red and near infrared LED light:

· Increases collagen production

· Increases skins elasticity

· Reduces fine lines

· Reduces rosacea

· Improves skin tone and texture

· Promotes healing

Blue and near infrared LED light:

· Reduces acne

· Prevents bacteria

· Kills ‘P’ (Propionibacterium acnes) bacteria

· Eliminates blemishes

· Regulates natural oils

· Improves skin clarity

2. Skin Peels

Skin peels – or chemical skin peels – are a great treatment for acne. With three different kinds available, it’s always important to book in for a skin assessment with one of our consultants at Aesthetics of Essex, who will be able to advise the best one for you. They include:

Exfoliators:

This particular works on the top layer of the epidermis – stratum corneum – and is a gentle way to refresh the skin by removing the dead skin cells. Revealing the healthy, new skin underneath, you won’t need any downtime following the treatment.

Resurfacers:

Also known as mild peels, resurfacers are superficial treatments, working on the very top layers of the skin. Using enzymes and acids to refine and exfoliate, there is very little-to-no downtime following the treatment.

Skin peels:

Not only do skin peels treat the top layers of the skin, but they also infiltrate the mid to lower levels of the epidermis, which delivers stronger and longer-lasting results. Due to this though, downtime of up to 10 days can be expected.

3. Skincare and facial treatments

At Aesthetics of Essex, we offer a number of skincare and facial treatments, as a way to make sure that you are happy with what you see in the mirror first thing in the morning. To determine which skincare or facial treatment is right for you, we encourage you to get in touch with us to discuss your needs, requirements and expectations.

The different treatments on offer include:

· Microdermabrasion

· HIFU

· Dermapen

· Milla removal

4. Hydrafacials

Hydrafacials use state-of-the-art technology to give you a skin peel microdermabrasion and a hydrating mask in one treatment. Performed using a specialised device that extracts impurities from deep within the pores, our Hydrafacials are moisturising and exfoliating at the same time.

Following the hydrafacial, LED lights will be applied to reduce redness whilst further stimulating collagen and vitamin D production, which will leave you – and your skin – glowing.

Ideal for acne, blackheads, scarring and blocked pores, all of these treatments are carried out by one of our experienced aestheticians. And we also offer a number of ZO products, including Acne Control, which is a maximum strength acne fighting formula that helps to neutralise bacteria, remove impurities, clear clogged pores and reduce redness.
