Can I get eyelid surgery on the NHS?

If you’re suffering with hooded or drooping upper eyelids, you may be wondering how easy it is to get eyelid surgery on the NHS.

Otherwise known as blepharoplasty, this is a surgical procedure that is performed to correct sagging skin around the eyes. Not only can it improve the appearance of the eyelids, making the skin appear more youthful, but it can also widen the field of vision in more severe cases.

The majority of people suffering with loose skin around the eyes do not qualify for eyelid surgery on the NHS. Blepharoplasty will only be funded by the NHS if the patient meets strict eligibility criteria.

In order to qualify for eyelid surgery on the NHS, you must demonstrate that you are experiencing mental and physical discomfort as a result of the issue, or your vision is being affected. Even in cases where eyesight is impacted by drooping eyelids, it will need to be proven that undergoing blepharoplasty would significantly improve this.

The bottom line? Eyelid surgery on the NHS is not an option if the issue is purely cosmetic.

 

How much does eyelid surgery cost?

If you aren’t eligible for eyelid surgery on the NHS, then you’ll need to research local clinics to find out their prices for having the operation done privately. Bear in mind, however, that the lowest price will not always equal the best results.
