What are the benefits of microneedling?

Microneedling really is the hot topic in the beauty business at the moment, and for good reason. It treats everything from acne scars to lines and wrinkles and has a comparable effect to laser and chemical peel treatments, without the downtime.

In this post, we’ll talk about how microneedling works, and the benefits you can expect to achieve following treatment.

What is microneedling?

The microneedling process entails rolling a pen or wand affixed with many tiny needles to create minuscule wounds in the skin. Your body responds by trying to heal these superficial wounds, and generates new collagen. This boosts your skin’s strength, radiance, and health.

Here at Aesthetics of Essex, we use an advanced microneedling treatment called Dermapen. This uses individually sealed, sterile, disposable needle cartridges for optimal patient safety. Every Dermapen needle tip is made up of twelve smaller needles, which use patented technology to penetrate the skin.

Dermapen can heal scars, improve skin discolouration, fine lines and wrinkles that are deeper in your dermis. You’ll see an improvement after the first treatment, and some of our clients just have one treatment each year. However, we recommend that patients who are new to microneedling receive a series of three or four treatments spaced about six weeks apart. If you have deep wrinkles, stretch marks or acne scars, you may need six to eight treatments. The more treatments you have, the better the results you’ll see over time.

Who can benefit from microneedling?

Whether you’d like to target dark circles under your eyes, fine lines and wrinkles or another skin concern such as stretch marks, you’ll be attacking the root cause of the problem with microneedling, which is loss of collagen.

Dermapen makes your skin glow after just one treatment and continues to boost your complexion for months. There are many benefits to microneedling, and we’ve listed the most notable ones below.

Microneedling to reduce fine lines and wrinkles

Collagen and elastin add structure and strength – qualities that are generally boasted by younger skin and are gradually lost with age. Dermapen stimulates your body to produce new skin cells along with collagen and elastin, all of which will make fine lines and wrinkles much less obvious.

Dermapen can reduce the appearance of scars

As microneedling causes an increase in collagen and elastin, it’s also a very effective treatment for scarring, whether caused by acne or otherwise. The only type of scar that Dermapen is ineffective at treating is raised, keloid scarring.

Reverse the effects of sun damage with microneedling

Microneedling with Dermapen is effective in reversing the appearance of hyperpigmentation and age spots caused by sun damage.

We can treaty a blotchy, brownish complexion, caused by too many days in the sun without adequate protection, with microneedling. This is because new skin cells will be generated, which will even out your skin tone.

Fight sagging, ageing skin

When you think of the signs of ageing, you probably think of wrinkles. And whilst microneedling can treat wrinkles effectively, it also fights other signs of ageing.

Your skin loses elasticity with age, often appearing slightly loose or saggy. It may also begin to look rather dull. As microneedling boosts collagen, we can drastically improve your sagging skin with Dermapen treatment.  And following a session, your skin will have a fresh, radiant glow.

Shrink large pores

You’d think that since Dermapen involves making lots of tiny holes in your skin, it would increase the size of your pores. However, this isn’t the case.

In fact, as your body will boost your collagen levels, this will plump the area around the pores. This decreases the appearance of your pores and gives you a smooth, even complexion.

Eliminate stretch marks

Microneedling isn’t just for your face!  It will work just about anywhere on your body.  Rapid periods of growth such as pregnancy cause stretch marks.  The new skin cells that your body generates following microneedling treatment can reduce stretch marks or even eliminate them completely.

Microneedling for rosacea

Rosacea can be an embarrassing and often painful condition, but Dermapen may improve it.  The increase in new skin cells and collagen will cause your skin to be less inflamed and irritated.
