How to dissolve lip filler

Have you had your lips filled with dermal filler? If you have overfilled or unevenly filled lips, or you’ve just had enough of your Kylie Jenner lips and fancy going for a more natural look, you’ll need to get the lip filler dissolved.

It’s common for patients who’ve had numerous dermal filler treatments in their lips over the years to have their filler completely dissolved. It provides an opportunity to start again from scratch on a blank canvas. This achieves a smoother and fresher appearance.

What is used to dissolve lip filler?

The lip filler dissolving procedure can quickly and safely reverse dermal fillers. The treatment involves an enzyme (hyaluronidase) being injected into the lips. You may think that this sounds like the reverse of what you’re wanting to happen – you want less stuff in your lips, not more! However, this enzyme dissolves the dermal filler, returning your lips to their original shape and size.

Hyaluronidase occurs naturally in the body, so in time your body would break down your lip filler on its own in around six to twelve months – that’s the reason dermal fillers are temporary. But when injected into your lips, the enzyme breaks down your lip filler much more rapidly. Once it’s done its job, this organic substance is carried away in your bloodstream. It’s then processed easily by your body, so reactions to it are extremely rare.

Can I dissolve my lip filler at home?

No! Don’t do it, it’s a very bad idea. Whilst you may be able to get hold of hyaluronidase injectables online, it doesn’t mean that you should! Both lip fillers and enzymes to dissolve them are injectable treatments, which must be administered in a clinical setting. If you try to use them at home, it’s likely to result in infection, injury, and maybe a trip to A&E.

You should only ever have lip filler injected or dissolved by an experienced clinician at a reputable company. Get in touch for a free consultation with Aesthetics of Essex if you’re in the area.

Are there any risks associated with the treatment?

It’s highly unusual to have a reaction to having your lip filler dissolved, if you have the treatment performed by an experienced clinician in a sterile environment. There is a very small chance of allergic reaction. This is why hyaluronidase is only permitted for use when it’s in the best interest of the patient, and with fully informed consent.

Does having lip filler dissolved hurt?

The side effects of having lip filler dissolved are pretty similar to having it injected in the first place. The lips are a very sensitive part of the body, with many nerve endings. Whilst numbing cream is always used to make the experience more comfortable, the treatment can sometimes make your eyes water a bit! Unlike the lengthier process of having lip filler injected, the procedure to remove it can take as little as ten minutes.

How soon will I see the effects of lip filler dissolving?

The hyaluronidase begins to break down filler in your lips immediately. However, the full effects will only be seen around two weeks after the procedure – once any swelling or bruising has subsided completely.
