We know that everyone strives to have clear, beautiful skin; pigmentation can come in many different forms – these include thread veins, red veins, age spots and sun spots. Our treatments are always conducted after your FREE consultation to ensure you receive the best advice before any treatment begins.
So what actually causes pigmentation?
The amount of time you your skin spends exposed to the sun, highly influences your chances of developing skin pigmentation. Excessive sun exposure may be responsible for changes in the skin that will not be seen for years. The suns rays speed up how active your skin cells are and can cause increased production of melanin (the pigmentation that gives your skin its colour).
Expectant mothers may also experience an increase in melanin as brown or tan patches appear on the face due to a change in hormone levels. Changes in pigmentation may also be caused by trauma to the skin; these traumas include bug bites and acne that display as dark spots and remain on the skin long after the initial inflammation has healed.
Our most effective treatment for removing skin pigmentation and thread veins is our Harmony XL Laser treatment. Unlike our Sclerotherapy treatment(thread vein treatment), the Harmony XL Laser treatment offers longer lasting results against skin pigmentation and thread vein, during quick pain-free sessions.
The procedure involves pulses of heat energy being fired onto the skin which targets the pigmentation without damaging the surrounding tissue, or thread veins without perforating them. The cells are then re-absorbed by the body during its natural healing process, leaving minimal trace of the original lesion. New cells replace these cells, eliminating any type of discolouration. The Harmony XL Laser pigmentation technology is perfect for deep pigmentation.
Alternative treatments that are available at our clinic include microdermabrasion treatments, and skincare systems.
Microdermabrasion is a technique that works with micro crystals in order to improve the appearance of sun damaged skin. It also counters problems such as fine lines and wrinkles, acne prone skin and oily or dry patches. The micro crystals are hard enough to disrupt unwanted skin cells causing dull looking skin, without causing damage or discomfort. After your first session the microdermabrasion treatment will leave your skin feeling softer and looking more radiant; however, it is a progressive procedure and will require multiple sessions – generally recommended for light pigmentation.
A skincare system, available at our clinic, that directly targets skin pigmentation is the Obagi medical Nu-Derm® System. Obagi medical are a speciality pharmaceutical company founded by leading skin care experts in 1988. Their products are designed to minimize the appearance of premature skin aging, skin damage, hyperpigmentation, acne and sun damage.
The Obagi Nu-Derm® System penetrates the skin’s surface to transform the skins appearance and help correct the damage within revealing healthy, younger-looking skin. The skincare system contains hydroquinone (a safe ingredient considered to be the gold standard for treating pigmentation issues) which lightens areas of darkened or discoloured skin. Obagi Nu-Derm® System is available in two customised sets based on skin type, and will be prescribed by one of our skincare specialist nurses at the time of consultation. The Nu-Derm® System is very effective at treating skin pigmentation and ideal for skin concerns such as age spots, fine lines and wrinkles, rough skin, loss of skin elasticity, redness, yellowish complection and discolouration.
