Plastic Surgery: Gynaecomastia Correction

Gynaecomastia is the enlargement of glandular tissue of the breast, it is common in boys during infancy, and adolescent males during the phases of puberty. Why? Due to an imbalance of testosterone (the male hormone) and oestrogen, the female hormone which controls breast tissue growth). In most cases, the effect of hormonal imbalance is usually balanced out over time, and the breast tissue breaks down.

Enlargement of the breast tissue also happens in about one-third of older men, and in those who are classed as obese as they have fat tissue all over the body including the breasts; although this is not classed as true Gynaecomastia. Specific medicines, including antidepressants and those used for high blood pressure, drug abuse and genetic illnesses such as Klinefelter’s Syndrome can also cause Gynaecomastia.

We understand that it can be an embarrassing issue to deal with as a male with ‘lady lumps’ and your confidence can suffer as a result of it. If you’ve tried exercising, losing weight, or even testosterone hormones in an attempt to decrease your protruding chest and it simply has not worked, we can provide you with an alternative option: Gynaecomastia Correction Surgery.

Gynaecomastia Correction Surgery (or male chest reduction surgery) is a surgical procedure, performed by our expert plastic surgeon Dr Navid Jallali MC FRCS, which we offer to men who are unhappy living with the condition.

The procedure involves small incisions made in the chest area, a cannulae is then inserted into the incision and used to draw out glandular tissue by a strong vacuum pump, it is a procedure similar to Liposuction.

Results will vary on the individual and the look they want to achieve, however a small amount of breast gland must be maintained in order to support the areola and to avoid unsightly dips and irregularities in the region. The surgery is performed under local anaesthetic.

Jallali is next available at our clinic in Upminster on the 21st January for free consultations and honest advice. Spaces will be limited so please do get in touch with us if this is something you are considering as we wouldn’t want you to miss out.

Other plastic surgery procedures we offer include Abdomioplasty (tummy tucks), Breast Reconstruction, Rhinoplasty and a range of lifts which will remove excess skin and leave you looking more toned and glowing with newly found confidence!
