It’s summer – well, in a British sort of way…one minute we’ve got a heatwave caused by a ‘Spanish plume’, then we get a cold showery day.
But either way, when it gets hot, no-one wants to feel, smell or look all sweaty.
Over the years there have been various remedies for sweating but surely none more wacky than the one featured in this piece from the Femail section of the Daily Mail.
Yes, in the section ‘In the limelight’ – good pun, eh? – they are trying to persuade you to rub limes under your armpits. OK, it’s meant as an emergency measure, but it sounds grim! In this adapted excerpt from a book called “Beauty Hacks: Make-up Cheats, Skincare Tricks and Styling Tips”, by Aggie Robertson, the article suggests keeping a lime in the fridge, slicing it in half, then, after showering, rubbing it straight onto your underarms. And it warns: “Make sure you haven’t recently shaved – ouch!” Ouch, indeed. Yes, you could alternatively apply the juice with a cotton pad, but that doesn’t sound much better. (And surely a lime could be better used in a Mojito?).
Never fear – you don’t need to go the fruity route. Aesthetics of Essex can come to the rescue, particularly if you suffer from excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis).
Here at our friendly clinic in Essex, staffed by trained professionals, we know how distressing hyperhidrosis can be. It affects around 1-2% of the population but for that minority it is a huge issue.
We use Botulinum Toxin A injections to treat the condition. We inject it into your underarm skin so that it provides a terrific solution to excessive sweating. It blocks nerve endings, meaning that no more sweat can be produced from your sweat glands. This effect lasts for up to 8 months, after which we can repeat the treatment.
If you have any questions or concerns about this treatment, please talk to us for reassurance.
