And the age for change is…39

New research has showed that the average age a woman first has cosmetic surgery is 39 – and it’s dropped below 40 for the first time.

The previous average, in 2012, was 42. Men are also opting for cosmetic surgery at a younger age – in the same time period, their average age has gone down from 47 to 45.

But, to summarise, it was conducted by Dr Julian De Silva, a Harley Street facial cosmetic surgeon, by looking at 2,000 patient records over five years, across the UK.

So why the boom in cosmetic surgery? Well, the answer is in front of our noses. It’s reckoned to be due to the growing ‘Instagram culture’, with people finding out how their appearance can be improved using filters on their smart phones. They also want to look better on social media such as Facebook. And for many, that translates into electing to have cosmetic surgery.

If you’re part of the ‘Instagram culture’ – or even if you’re not, but want to explore what cosmetic surgery can do for you – keep safe and informed by choosing Aesthetics of Essex. The surgical procedures we offer focus on improving the appearance of the body, rather than its function.
