PRP Hair Treatment
Do you suffer from thinning hair or female and male pattern hair loss?
Are you looking for a non-surgical treatment to help with hair growth?
PRP hair restoration could be the hair loss treatment for you.
What is PRP hair treatment?
PRP hair treatment for hair loss is a non-surgical, safe, and effective hair regrowth treatment that uses the patient’s own blood plasma to stimulate hair follicles for increased growth factors and reduced hair thinning.
PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy is an effective hair rejuvenation treatment that has been proven to:
- Stimulate hair growth and thickness in your hair count
- Protect hair follicles from prematurely shedding – stopping further hair loss
- Increase blood supply to the follicle
- Boost hair density
So, whether you suffer from hair loss from menopause, post-natal symptoms, or male pattern baldness, platelet-rich plasma injections can help restore your hair to a healthier, fuller state.
What can PRP therapy help with?
PRP treatment regimens can be for a variety of common conditions, including:
- Age-related hair loss concerns
- Male pattern baldness and female pattern hair loss – also called androgenetic alopecia
- Thinning hair
- Post-procedure hair rejuvenation
- Alopecia

What happens during PRP restoration?
During a PRP treatment session, there are 3 key steps:
- Firstly, the qualified and experienced nurse will draw 10-60ml of blood, usually from the patient’s arm.
- Then the nurse will spin the blood to extract the platelet-rich plasma from the whole blood.
Plasma is a liquid substance found in the blood that contains platelets, which stimulate hair regrowth when reintroduced into the scalp.
- Finally, the nurse then injects the platelet-rich plasma into areas on the patient’s scalp, where it has been affected by hair loss — usually about 15 to 20 injections per session.
It is recommended that patients receive three PRP therapy treatments spaced 4-8 weeks apart.
PRP treatment results
While results will vary from person to person, most patients see significant improvement after the first or second platelet-rich plasma treatment.
Results can include:
- Thicker hair growth
- Normal hair loss
- An increase in hair thickness
- New hair growth in bald or thinning patches
- Dormant hair follicles are awoken
- Increased self-esteem
Hair growth results can last up to 12-24 months after the initial treatment course, but some patients may need regular top-up treatments every 6-12 months to maintain the desired results of hair loss treatments – ask our practitioner for more details.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is PRP treatment the same as PRP therapy?
Platelet-rich plasma therapy has many names within the industry, all of which describe the same remedy. This includes:
- PRP for hair loss
- Platelet-rich plasma therapy
- PRP hair treatment
- PRP scalp injections
- PRP scalp treatments
- PRP treatment
- PRP therapy
- Platelet-rich plasma injections
You should be aware, however, that advanced PRP treatment is not a like-for-like cosmetic solution, as it focuses on improving the aesthetics of the face, not the hair, and includes the use of Hyaluronic acid alongside platelet-rich plasma.
Can platelet-rich plasma therapy stop age-related hair loss?
Hair loss and less effective hair follicles plague everyone to a certain extent as we age.
Common conditions and life events can influence hair growth cycles and hair density, including:
- The menopause
- Hereditary traits
- Endocrine or thyroid disorders
- Reducing hormones – the number one cause of androgenetic alopecia, also called female pattern hair loss and male pattern hair loss.
- Nutritional deficiencies
- Stress
However, that does not mean that you need to accept hair loss.
Hair restoration with platelet-rich plasma therapy is widely backed by past and ongoing scientific research, helping to stop further hair loss and encouraging the hair cycle to extend – leading to tissue regeneration and promoting hair growth!

Can you get platelet-rich plasma from another source?
The use of platelet-rich plasma is essential for PRP treatment because platelets contain cytokines and proteins that promote growth, healing, and rejuvenation. When used in cosmetic treatments to correct hair thinning, injected PRP increases hair growth, stops hair loss, and gives ageing hair follicles a boost.
When undergoing PRP therapy, it’s not encouraged to use platelet-rich plasma from another source, or person, because of the risk of infection. For this reason, PRP will always be given back to the patient who donated it at the start of the appointment.
As it is not needed for improving growth factors or improving hair density, the rest of the blood products, such as white and red blood cells, will be safely disposed of as medical waste.
Does PRP treatment really improve hair growth?
Unlike many hacks, tips, tricks, and products you might find online that claim to boost hair growth, improve hair density, stimulate hair follicles, and stop hair loss, PRP treatment has been scientifically proven to work.
Popular medical treatment reviews that support PRP therapy, include:
- A 2022 review from Drug Design, Development, and Therapy via Dove Press
- A 2020 review from the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology
- A 2018 review from the International Journal of Women’s Dermatology
This scientific endorsement is important for many of our patients, as it allows them to focus on hair loss treatments that really work, save money on useless products, and make their investment worthwhile.

Are there side effects to PRP therapy for hair loss?
As with all cosmetic treatments, there is a risk of side effects from PRP therapy.
These rare side effects can include:
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Scalp pain
- Irritation during the healing process
- Scar tissue at the injection site
- Injury to blood vessels
- Injury to nerves
Many of these consequences can occur from having blood drawn to harvest the platelet-rich plasma.
So, to limit the likelihood of negative results after your PRP treatment, you can:
- Eat a healthy balanced meal near your appointment time, for breakfast or lunch
- Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water
- Tell our practitioners if you find it better to give blood in a particular position to stop dizziness and nausea
If you want to know more, contact our expert practitioners – we have years of experience delivering PRP therapy to patients of all types, so there’s not likely to be a question we haven’t heard before!
What are hair follicles and how do they help with hair growth?
A hair follicle is similar to a pore and is found within the top two layers of skin. Each follicle surrounds a hair root and strand and around 1 million of them can be found on your head alone.
Hair follicles relate to hair growth as one of its main jobs is to grow individual hair strands – and over your lifetime, the hair follicle can start and stop functioning at any time.
Hair loss is a common side effect of damaged or degenerating hair follicles, while increased hair growth, hair density, and hair thickness come from a well-performing, healthy follicle.
Injecting platelet-rich plasma into the scalp, as part of PRP therapy, encourages hair follicle health and regeneration – helping to stimulate hair growth, making it an effective hair loss treatment.
