Frequently Asked Questions

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Although you can see up to a 20% reduction from one session alone, you will need 6 – 8 sessions to achieve a 90% reduction in hair growth.

Am I Suitable For This Treatment?

Do you have brown/ black hair? Is your hair medium to thick in density? If so then YES!

*Please note other factors such as medication do impact on you being a suitable client but this will be discussed at consultation*

How Does Laser Actually Work?

Lasers emit energy in the form of light and the laser heats up the hair follicle.

The light from the laser is then attracted to and absorbed by melanin, the pigment in your hair.

The heat travels down the hair before destroying the root and connections to the blood supply, therefore preventing the growth of further hair.
The treatment provided by Aesthetics of Essex only targets the structures of the hair and follicle the surrounding tissue is left undamaged.

How Will I Feel After Treatment?

The great advantage of having Soprano laser hair removal is that there is virtually no downtime! You should expect to have mild erythema (reddening) to the treatment area and for it to feel like a very mild sunburn.

Do I Need to Grow My Hair Out?

In preparation for your laser hair removal at Aesthetics of Essex, we recommend that you stop waxing, plucking or removing your hair from the root around 5 weeks before your scheduled treatment. You must shave 24 hours prior to your treatment. There is to be no hair on the surface of

the skin during your treatments but there must be hair in the root for the last to pick up. *Please attend your consultation with hair in the treatment area*

What areas of the body can I have done?

We can treat every area other than below the eyebrow!

About Soprano XL

While there are many methods to eliminate unwanted hair (shaving, waxing and plucking) very few can eliminate hair regrowth without harming the surrounding skin.

The Soprano XL laser specifically targets cells responsible for regrowth. It passes light through the skin and directly to the regrowth cells. The light is absorbed by the melanin in the hair shaft and causes the root of the hair to die.

Our laser gently and safely heats targeted hair follicles until they can no longer produce new hair.

The gentle pulses of laser energy damages the hair follicle and prevents re-growth without injuring or damaging the surrounding skin. The hair falls out, and leaves you hair-free in the treated area.

This treatment slows the rate of the hair growth as it targets the direct source, rather than just trimming the hair on the surface. The Soprano XL laser can treat nearly any part of the body, and best of all, it’s pain free.

The Hair Growth Cycle

The growth of Human Hair occurs near enough everywhere on the body.

Hair grows from the follicle, or root, underneath the skin. The hair is “fed” by blood vessels at the base of the follicle, which gives it the nourishment it needs to grow.

Each hair passes through four stages, which are; Anagen, Catagen, Telogen and Exogen. Every hair is at a different stage of the growth cycle.

Stage 1: Anagen (Growing Phase)
The Anagen Phase is known as the growing phase. It begins with the papilla and it determines the length of the hair.

During this phase the cells in the papilla divide to produce new hair fibres and the follicle buries itself into the dermal layer of the skin to nourish the strand.

Stage 2: Catagen (Transition Phase)
The Catagen Phase is known as the transitional stage that lasts about ten days. The hair follicle shrinks and detaches from the dermal papilla.

Stage 3: Telogen (Resting Phase)
The Telogen Phase is known as the resting phase. Whilst the old hair is resting, below a new hair begins the growth phase in replacement of the previous hair strand.

Stage 4: Exogen (New Hair Phase)
The Exogen Phase is known as the part of the resting phase where the old hair sheds, or you shave/wax/pluck the hair you can see on the surface of the skin, and new hair slightly underneath still continues to grow.

The Procedure

Before your treatment, any hair that is too long will be trimmed shorter, and strength of the laser will be adjusted to the setting required. This will depend on the colour, thickness and location of the hair being treated as well as your skin colour.

The technician will give a pulse of light to the treatment area and watch the area for several minutes to make sure the best settings are used and to check for bad reactions.

Eye protection may be required for you and your technician during your treatment. However this will depend on the strength the laser is set to. A cold gel may also be applied in sensitive areas for extra protection and to help the laser light penetrate the skin.

Once the procedure is complete, your technician may recommend an anti-inflammatory cream or cold water to take away any discomfort. You can then schedule your next treatment four to six weeks later.

Treatments will continue until hair stops growing in the treated area.

Please be aware: Laser hair removal is more than just zapping away unwanted hair. It is a medical procedure that requires training to perform.

This treatment is carried out by our fully qualified Aesthetic Practitioners who have been specially trained in performing laser hair removal treatments.

After each laser hair removal session the rate you hair grows will be reduced in the treated area. Hair will take longer to grow back, and if you continue with your treatments, the hair can stop growing.

Results can last a year or so, however, having long term treatments can result in hair removal.

The benefits of laser hair removal include:

  • Speed – Each pulse of the laser takes a fraction of a second and can effectively treat multiple hairs at once.
  • Precision – Laser hair removal can target dark, coarse hairs without damaging the surrounding skin.
  • Predictability – 90% of patients have hair loss after an average of three to five sessions.
  • Confidence – All unwanted or excessive hair is removed, and with proven results of hair removal – with long term treatment – you won’t have to worry about maintenance!

It is important to us that all our clients feel safe and in good hands when they come to Aesthetics of Essex.
