Did you know that around 40 percent of males show initial signs of hair loss as young as in their early to mid-twenties? Or that up to 30% of women will experience social and psychological stress due to hair loss? Premature baldness or thinning hair may be an early indication that you are one of the many people who will inevitably suffer from hair loss at some point in your life, whether it is down to genetics, stress or the aging process.
Here at Aesthetics of Essex, we offer FUT and FUE Hair Transplant Surgery – both are remarkable procedures which have the ability to create new hair growth that are undetectable and long lasting. So if you were thinking of buying unnatural-looking hair extensions or paying out for costly visits to the hairdressers in an attempt to conseal baldness, we urge you to think again. Hair Transplant Surgery could be the answer.
In a Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) procedure, individual hair follicles are extracted from areas of the scalp until there are enough follicular units for the planned hair restoration. This process can take several hours and may be accomplished over two or more sessions. The donor wounds, approximately 1-mm or less in size, completely heal over the course of seven to ten days and leaves no scar tissue!
This method of donor harvesting, removing follicular units one-by-one directly from the scalp, is what differentiates the FUE procedure from a traditional Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) – where the donor hair is removed from the scalp in one thin, long strip and then subsequently dissected into individual follicular units using a stereo-microscope.
After the grafts are harvested, tiny recipient sites are made in the balding area of the scalp. The follicular units are then placed into the recipient sites where they will grow into healthy hair-producing follicles. The creation of recipient sites and the placing of follicular unit grafts are essentially the same in both FUE and FUT procedures.
So how long will it take? A hair transplant procedure can take anywhere from 8 to 14 hours depending upon a variety of factors such as the number of grafts needed, the complexity of the transplant, or even the surgeon. Both FUT and FUE procedures are performed by our skilled Hair Transplant Specialist. They are safe and highly successful procedures for regaining hair loss in both men and women.
